About Us
LIKE PINE MOUNTAIN-CLOVERDALE PEAK AVA, Silverwood Ranch straddles both Sonoma and Mendocino Counties and includes the highest elevation vineyard in Sonoma County.

Owners Barry and Jackie Hoffner wove together the 1,200 acre Ranch over a period of about 5 years beginning in 2003 with a commitment to good land stewardship and use of best practices in sustainable farming for the developed acres of the Ranch. 43 acres are planted to grapes; the remaining acres contain a vast array of natural and biological diversity – madrone and manzanita forests, rolling hills, springs and ponds, and elevation changes from 1,800' – 3,000', culminating at the peak of Pine Mountain. The Ranch supports wildlife corridors for foxes, wild pigs, turkey, deer, mountain lion, bob cats, and bears and has received the Fish Friendly Farming accreditation by the California Land Stewardship Institute.

Two Special Vineyards: Silverwood Vineyard and Upper Ridge Vineyard
The Ranch's planted acres are divided into 2 vineyards on the Sonoma County side of Pine Mountain with their own micro-climate and are protected from the strong winds and cold weather by a high elevation ridge above the vineyard.

The Silverwood Vineyard:
Planted in 2005, the vineyard encompasses 13 acres including 10 1/2 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and 2 1/2 acres of Merlot. The vineyard blocks are mostly on gentle hillside of Southwest orientation, including 5 x 8 spacing, with drip irrigation fed from a large 30 acre/ft. pond filled by natural springs.

The vineyard encompasses one Merlot block and five distinct blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon, each with different soil profiles, allowing us to design for optimal placement of rootstock and clone combinations. The vineyards are all planted on the Sonoma County side of Pine Mountain with their own micro-climate protected from the strong winds and cold weather by a high elevation ridge above the vineyard.

The Upper Ridge Vineyard:
Leased to and farmed by Benziger Family Winery, the Upper Ridge Vineyard encompasses 30 acres planted to 11 different high-elevation varieties including Sauvignon Blanc, Sangiovese, Tempranillo, Malbec, and Cabernet Sauvignon as well as several lesser grown varieties in our region including Lagrein, Teroldego and Tannat. Benziger harvests these blocks for use in their Imagery brand.

Planted in 2000 by Benziger Family Winery for its Imagery Estate wines, the 30-acre Upper Ridge Vineyard is nestled into the 1200 acre Silverwood Ranch on the southern and southwestern slopes of Pine Mountain. Developed as a playground of clonal experimentation, the vineyard has enjoyed incredible success in grafting both well-known and lesser-known varieties in this high-elevation setting.

Reflecting Imagery Estate Winery's focus on eco-responsible farming, the surrounding acres contain a vast array of natural and biological diversity – madrone and manzanita forests, rolling hills, springs and ponds, and support wildlife corridors for foxes, wild pigs, turkey, deer, mountain lion, bob cats, and bears.

The Upper Ridge Vineyard, with planted elevations reaching 2,600' claims the distinction of the highest-elevation vineyard in Sonoma County.
